5.19 ESP Troubleshooting
The Electronic Stability and Protection feature requires the following G1000 sensors/data to be valid:
• Feature Configuration
• AHRS
• Heading
• ADC (IAS)
• GPS Position
• 9 Arc-Second Terrain Data
• GFC 700
• MFD
In the event that one of the above items fails or is unavailable, the ESP feature is automatically degrade or
failed. The following table describes possible symptoms associated with the ESP feature, and provides
corresponding actions for troubleshooting:

Symptom Recommended Action
ESP Roll Indices not displayed
after aircraft is above 200 feet
AGL.
• Ensure that the “ESP Option” has been installed per Section 3.5.6
• Ensure that the “Enhanced AFCS unlock card” has been loaded per
Section 3.5.11.
ESP Roll Indices displayed while
aircraft is on ground.
• Verify that a valid GPS signal is being received by G1000.
The following table provides ESP specific alert messages which may appear in the Alerts Window on the
PFD (press the ALERTS softkey on the PFD to view the Alerts Window):

Failure Message Cause Solution
ESP FAIL – ESP is inoperative.
GFC 700 feature has one or more
failures.
Troubleshoot the GFC 700 AFCS. Refer
to Section 5.5.
ESP OFF – ESP selected off.
ESP was selected OFF on the
MFD AUX-SYSTEM SETUP 2
page.
On the MFD AUX-SYSTEM SETUP 2
page select “Stability & Protection”
status to “ENABLED”.
MFD failure.
Ensure MFD is receiving power.
Check MFD wiring.
Replace MFD if problem persists.
ESP DEGRADE - ESP IAS mode
is inoperative.
ADC failure.
Ensure ADC is receiving power.
Check ADC wiring.
Replace ADC if problem persists.
ESP CONFIG – ESP config error.
Config service req’d.
Either the ESP option or
Enhanced AFCS Unlock was not
performed during the ESP feature
configuration.
Ensure that the “ESP Option” has been
installed per Section 3.5.6.
Ensure that the “Enhanced AFCS
unlock card” has been loaded per
Section 3.5.11.
If the ESP option needs to be removed,
reload the baseline configuration for the
specific airframe and all applicable
options as described in Section 3.5.
Reloading the baseline configuration
disables all previously enabled options.
